Amy Brice’s art typically revolves around her personal experiences in traumatic situations as a way to help her process and cope with them. For this exhibition she has progressed to further her research into other’s experiences.
So, she will tell the story of Laika, a mutt from the streets of Moscow who was the first dog sent into space in 1957. The spacecraft wasn’t designed to return to earth, instead to orbit for several days until the oxygen ran out. The reality is that Laika died a few hours after launch due to loss of the spacecraft’s heatshield.
Amy’s work reflects Laika’s exploitation and what she imagines Laika was feeling in her last few moments. Fear and trauma aren’t subjected to one species and that is what Amy intends to display.
