Jessica Brauner

‘Yearning Spaces’

Jessica Brauner specialises in making and editing surreal video works and sound pieces, utilising handmade sculptural props and costumes. She takes inspiration from narrative tropes within Hollywood's cinematic interpretations of fantasy and sci-fi. In her artworks, Jessica links real experiences with personal and mythical narratives, establishing her own characters and blurring the lines between reality and fiction.

Using information concerning the advancement of European Quantum telecommunications on the European Space Agency’s website as well as her own experience of online relationships, her work for this exhibition aims to explore how human relationships have been changed through technological advancements that facilitate the continuation of those relationships while simultaneously enabling the phenomenon of our reliance on machinery. Her work in this exhibition explores sci-fi fan culture, connection and separation through the Brechtian-inspired lens of her episodic video pieces.
